Going Places

Going Places were going places where no other company had gone before -- they were attempting to set up the world's largest replicated database system using Microsoft technology.

715 database servers would be situated, one per shop, throughout the UK. The entire system would support over 5,000 users. Data would have to be replicated from UK headquarters in Woking to each and every shop, and each shop's data be collected. Robustly.

Luckily for Going Places, they came to DataSurge. We advised them on their replication strategy and implemented a robust solution. While we were there, we identified some weaknesses in their operational change management procedure. At first they didn't take action. But when the problems we predicted arose, they implemented our recommendations and commissioned us to write a change management system.

With so many computers involved, the rollout was complex and challenging. Yet despite the technical and logistical difficulties, the project was implemented ahead of schedule!
